Nursery Rhyme Day!!!

In lieu of Halloween, the Pillow Academy Kindgergarten recognizes Nursery Rhyme Week instead. Anne Craig was Little Miss Muffett this year. They have to recite their nursery rhyme and then they have a big feast comlete with curds and way (polenta), cheeses, haystacks, bugles, moon pies, blue muffins, etc.... Anyway....here are some snaps from this morning on the way out the door to school. We are so excited about Halloween weekend. McLean, Lisa D, Mary McLean, and Patten are coming to town. Check back soon for pictures of the upcoming action packed weekend.

Pumpkin Patch and Cotton Pickin- Yep, it's Fall Y'all

This is a busy time of year in the Pillow Academy Kindergarten. Anne Craig's 5K class went to the Simmons Pumpkin Patch near Belzoni last week and this morning they went to pick cotton. Not sure of that exact location. Anyway, these were great snaps taken by Anna Joyce Jefcoat who is room mother for her kiddos and I appreciated her snapping Anne Craig for me. Pictured with Anne Craig picking cotton is Caroline Brock (Don and Romney's). I hope everyone is getting in the mood for the fall season. It was 32 degrees this morning as I left for work. That is a bit chillier than I prefer but none the less it felt nice to bundle up and head out. It was the first morning of the season that I headed outdoors to crank the car a good 15 minutes before I actually drove off. Speaking of the season....It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...IN OCTOBER for goodness sakes....The next thing you know, we’ll have people putting up lights on their houses and we haven’t even observed Halloween/Fall Festival (pick your poison) yet! And what about Thanksgiving? Do you expect me to eat turkey, sip bloody mary's, watch football and play yard croquet (yes, we are playing croquet this year. Melton/Trotter's against Swayze/Pillow's) as I stress about getting down the Christmas decorations b/c I have to be decorated in exactly 7 days after.....(save that for another blog)....
You see? It just doesn’t go together. September is harvest. October is Halloween. November is Thanksgiving. And December is CHRISTMAS! Enough said. Ahhhhh re reading my post... I think I started to rant...oops sorry bout that. Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Birthday Gamba! We miss you so!

Today, Saturday October 25, is Gamba's birthday and I wanted to give a shout out for her. I don't mean to be morbid in displaying the pictures of her grave and not of old pics of actually her but I am very proud of how pretty her resting place is. Gooddaddy had the spray of fall flowers draped over her tombstone a few weeks ago and I went out and planted the pansies on her last week. She always loved pansy faces and the actual features they displayed. We all miss her so much and with this being her first birthday to come along that she is no longer with us it makes me very sad. I think Gooddaddy is having a hard time right now and we are all going out of our way to keep him busy, active and involved as much as possible. He has been a great soccer fan this season and has made most of Floyd's games. He's really looking forward to Thanksgiving at our house. Gamba was such a special lady who always had a flair for fashion and timeless design. I am really realizing that especially now as I am displaying many of her beautiful things in our new home. I know she would be so proud and happy. We miss you sweet Gamba. Happy 86th bday. You are in our hearts forever. Love you!

Soccermania!!!

This past weekend Anne Craig participated in her first soccer tournament. (Since after all this is her first season to play) It has been a funny experience to say the least. I'm not sure if we're long term soccer players as far as Anne Craig is concerned. She really tried hard this season and ran back and forth up the field as the game went along. As far as her getting much action in actually kicking the ball. Well, let's just say.........naaaaaaaaaa. She preferred the stand off position of circling about and around others. She did however score her first "correct" goal of the season this past weekend on a kick from the kickoff that went past the other teams players and strait into the goal. I must say it was pretty exciting. She seemed pleased in her own Anne Craig kinda way. (Meaning.. could take or leave it) By "correct" goal I mean, actually KICKING it in HER teams' goal. A few weeks ago another hysterical Anne Craig soccer moment happened when she was protecting the goal as "goalie" and as the other team was scrambling to kick it in and get it past her she decides as the ball rolled toward her instead of kicking it in the opposite direction she would just pick it up and throw it in for them! (oh and in a classic "over her shoulder style" I might add). So as soccer is coming to a close here in Greenwood, with our last games being next week for both Floyd and Anne Craig, it has been a great season. I will post more pics of Floyd next week. He, on the contrary, LOVES soccer and is pretty good I must say. He's quick, aggressive and a true hussler on the field. (Yes, he gets that from me- ha) He's made many goals this season and is the "go to man" or the "pass it to Floyd" for his team. All in all, soccer has been fun fun. What's next?? Oh yea, Basketball. Let's Get Ready to Rumble!!

Ainsley's Baptism

This past Sunday we celebrated Ainsley's Baptism at First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood. It was a very special day. Ainsley did great and her gown was beautiful. Shannon and Moss had a big crowd for lunch at their house following the service which was a mighty big undertaking and they pulled it off perfectly. The weather could not have been better. It was a wonderful occasion!! It's hard to believe she's 3 months old!!!

The Last Cookout at 419 Bell

A few weeks ago, well actually it was Sat. night of 300 Oaks weekend we had a final farewell cookout at the old homestead. We had a great time. Here are a few pics from that night. The Robbins, The Bushes, The Meltons, Kitt, Eliz. Barnwell, and Kim Whicker were all in town and we had a really good visit.

Moving SUX

I can't say it enough.. moving is the worst thing I have encountered. I just don't like it bottom line. The next time I move I will be going to Indywood or downsizing to a coffin. Hate to sound so grim but that is exactly how I feel about the whole process. Not to mention that I don't really have the personality for change or chaos and moving is that multiplied by 100. I am posting a few pics of some of our highlights such as me wrecking the Bowie truck by hitting our house and moving the dollhouse from Gamba's to our yard. Just lot of excitement that is for sure.

Long time... no see (oops, I mean blogging....)

Just been a bit busy here lately... I will post a few things to catch everyone up on what all has been going on with the Melton family. Bottom line, we are IN our new house and pretty much settled so that is some good news indeed. Pics to come soon I promise.
